As one of the 10 ‘Ambassador Hubs’ across the country, Greater Manchester Music Hub work with Young Sounds to connect young musicians to a variety of musical opportunities as part of the ‘Connect’ programme.
‘Connect’ identifies musical talent and potential amongst children at the earliest stages in their musical journey. The programme is designed to support young people from low-income families to sustain their musical learning so that they can keep progressing and playing music well into their teens and beyond.
Across Greater Manchester, we currently work with and provide musical opportunities for over 150 children. All children on the programme receive weekly instrumental tuition from specialist teachers from Music Services across the region. As well as this, pupils receive wider help with their musical progression, through an Individual Learning Plan and a personal bursary. Everyone on the programme is also invited to a termly ‘Get Together’ event, which offers a range of musical experiences. Past ‘Get Togethers’ have included a jazz workshop and performance with the National Youth Jazz Ensemble, Gamelan, singing and ukulele workshops at Manchester Metropolitan University, and trips to Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music.
We know that it can sometimes be difficult for families and young musicians to find the information, advice and guidance they need. If you would like to speak to Stuart or Emily, our Furthering Talent Connectors, then please email stuart.hazelton@bolton.gov.uk or emily.divver@bolton.gov.uk in the first instance and we will get in touch.
